Special Baby Shower Delivery

Wednesday, October 27th, 2010

‘Tis the season for…babies! It seems like the majority of my friends are all expecting and ready to pop any day, which means my calendar is filling up with baby showers left and right. When I go to a baby shower I like to give baby gifts that will last a little longer than the life span of a toy or pampers. So when I stumbled on these keepsake plates, perfect for a baby shower, and at a price that wouldn’t break my bank, I jumped at the chance to buy them.

I’m happy to report that I went to a baby shower this weekend for a friend of mine and she loved the plates. But something else surprised me while I was there. Instead of “oooing” and “awing” at the cute little baby clothes and toys, it was the favor that captivated our attention. (Okay, the teeny tiny onesies and itty-bitty shoes and socks were absolutely adorable, too!)

The grandma-to-be purchased all of the favors and passed them out just before we left. She handed each of us a package that looked like a stove with burners, knobs, and even a timer on it. And inside the “stove” was a sweet cinnamon scented candle in the shape of a honey bun—complete with gooey-looking icing covering the top. It was priceless watching the group giggle as they realized the cute pun.

The “Bun in the Oven” favor was a hit with everyone at the shower, and I know that baby shower favor will be at the top of my list whenever I have my own bun in my oven.

Baby Shower Games

Monday, March 2nd, 2009

Baby showers are a lovely time to gather friends and family of the mommy-to-be for some fun games, prizes and an overall good time to get ready to welcome the new baby to the world. You can get really creative with the type of games your guests can play, here a few to get your thoughts going:

-

    “Did you say “baby?”!”

- How to play: Give each of your guests 1 game peice, for example a sticker, baby pin, or necklace as they walk in the room, tell them they can’t say certain words, like “baby,” “shower,” “mom,” “dad,” and any other words that you choose! If any guest hears another guests at the party say any of those words, they can steal their game peice. The person with the most of these items at the end of the baby shower gets a prize!

    -”Don’t cross your legs ladies!”

- You can do the same as above, except this time anytime you see another guest crossing her legs you get to steal their game peice. Again, the person with the most game peices at the end of the day gets a prize. Warning-these games tend to get pretty competitive!

    -”Baby Bingo

“- This one is easy to play and create. Print 5 equal sized squares vertically and diagonally to equal 25 squares, mark the middle-most square “Baby Shower Bingo or free space, now start typing in the other words in random order for each bingo card. For example you can use words like, “mommy,” “daddy,” “baby boy” “baby girl,” “diaper, “stork,” etc. you can print this on pretty printed or colored paper and give each of your guests baby pink or blue markers and you have yourself baby bingo!

    -”How Big is Mommy’s Belly?”

- How to play: Have the mommy-to-be leave the room. Give each table a roll or two of toilet paper, each guest will have to estimate how big the mommy’s belly is and cut the amount they think will be the exact circumference around her waist and belly. Once the mom comes back in the room each person takes a turn to measure her belly with their peice of toilet paper. The person with the perfect match or almost perfect wins a prize!

    -”Find the right baby!”

- This works if you already know the gender of the baby. In this game you will stick a sticker of a baby boy or baby girl under each chair– there should only be one or two stickers of the right gender. For example if the baby will be a girl put a sticker of a baby boy under all the seats except for 1 or however many winners you’re hoping for. At some point during the shower asks the guests to see if there’s a baby “stuck” under their seat! Everyone will find one of course, but the winners will be only those that get the baby girl. *Note, if you don’t know the gender you can certainly do something else, be as creative as you like, it’s easy!

-”Name the Cost of the Baby Gift basket”

-Fill a basket with baby gift items and necessecities, like baby shampoo, wipes, diapers, a onesie, bibs, etc. Now have your guests guess how much the basket is worth. The person with the closest guess wins the basket or another prize.

    -”Tie breaker-Baby Diaper contest”-

This can be an addition to any of the games listed above, you can do this either to break a tie, or just to spice it up take the top 3 people with closest guesses for example and give them each a fully-clothed baby doll and a diaper, each guest will have to change the baby completly, including it’s diaper. The mom-to-be will judge who finished the fastest and did the job right!

Don’t Forget to thank your guests with these
