Rainy Wedding Day

October 4th, 2010

A bride can plan a perfect fall or winter wedding and think of all the nitty gritty details to make it special—from creating a monogram aisle runner and having a unique wedding cake topper, but when Mother Nature decides to crash the party, the only thing left to do is grin and bear it—and maybe buy a pair of willies and a few umbrellas just in case!

Of course, no girl wants rain on her wedding day—even if it is considered good luck—so instead of letting bad weather rain on your parade, embrace the possibility of a downpour, pull on some rain boots or wellies, and make the best of a rainy wedding day.

Ditch your heels for wellies during your fall, spring, or winter wedding and you won’t have to worry about slipping and sliding on your new fancy shoes. Pick a pair to match your color scheme or personality and get matching pairs for your bridesmaids, and your guests will think you actually planned to have it rain on your wedding day. Not to mention, wellies are adorable and playful and will look great in photos.

Now that you have your bottom half covered, it’s time to think about keeping your wedding ‘do under control. You didn’t just spend several hours getting your hair done for nothing; keep an umbrella on hand and your bridal up-do will be saved from any amount of rain that comes your way.  And don’t forget about the rest of your bridal party, because they’ll need to keep covered, too!

If you’re taking advantage of the gorgeous weather this season and having an outdoor wedding, you may want to have a backup plan to keep your guests comfortable. Since you never know when the weather may take a turn for the worse, keep your guests cozy with pashminas and umbrellas as unique keepsakes, or let love continue to pour down on them as you give them personalized wildflower seed favors to plant when spring rolls around.

But most importantly, if you find your fall wedding drenched in rain, take it all in stride and just have fun. The memories you’ll make from this day will be more important than a few drops of rain.

Falling in Love

September 27th, 2010

The warm colors associated with autumn automatically make me feel cozy and peaceful, and that makes me think of getting together with the people I love the most, which is the essence of any gathering.

Whether you’re having an autumn wedding with 500 guests or a small get-together with family and friends, dress up your venue with hues of deep browns and pops of red and orange for added zest. Keep the main lights dim and light some candles for an extra romantic glow around the room.

There’s something downright charming and rustic about fall. I love the shades of oranges, chocolates, golds, and reds that start popping up everywhere, the way leaves start to change colors and float to the ground, and that crisp autumn breeze that’s just cool enough to wear a scarf outside.

Not to mention, once the temperature drops there’s that extra advantage of snuggling up close to your love. Add fragrant scents of cinnamon, apples, and pumpkin to the mix and I’m quickly and whole-heartedly smitten with fall.

Let your guests know who’s who with a place card holder that doubles as a tea-light favor they can take home with them and reuse. As for drinks, along with popping open bottles of wine, why not have some apple cider and hot chocolate on hand, too? If you’re thinking about what food to serve, how about letting everyone enjoy some classic comfort foods.

And to top off the whole shindig, consider skipping a traditional cake route and opt for a homemade, fresh pie bar with your favorite flavors. Pair the pie with scoops of ice cream and everyone will leave with a happy and full stomach.

Perfectly Practical Wedding Favors

The Man Registry

The Man Registry

Picture this: you’re a guest at a wedding and the couple just said, “I do,” so you’re walking to the reception hall, ready to take your pre-determined seat. You sit down, look around, and enjoy your surroundings. The table you’re sitting at is beautifully decorated and there’s a small favor nestled between your plate and napkin. You pick it up, check it out, and quickly eat its contents, hoping it’ll tide you over while you wait for dinner to be served. The night rolls along, and by the time the reception is over and you’re back home, the wedding favor the newlyweds created just for you is a distant memory.

A favor is defined as a small gift or souvenir and is something to treasure, but I’m sure we’ve all walked away from a wedding with melting M&Ms, a bubble wand, or a few pastel-colored mints held together by tulle. It’s not to say that those are bad favors, but personally, those aren’t things I’ll treasure forever; they’ll likely end up in the trash or in my stomach.

Figuring out the nique wedding favor dilemma can be so daunting that the entire idea sometimes gets pushed further and further down on the to-do list until it’s non-existent. But coming up with chic, and practical wedding favors doesn’t have to be the bane of a bride’s existence! There are tons of fun favors out there waiting to land on wedding reception tables.

Cookie Cutter Favors: Fall Leaf, Cut Out For Each Other, A Star is Born, Palm Tree

Picking a useful favor, like a cookie cutter favor, will not only be used time and time again, but guests will remember who gave it to them every time they bite into a delicious, fun-shaped cookie. Go for a leaf shape for a fall wedding, a heart for a more romantic setting, the palm tree for a destination wedding, and then when the time comes for a baby shower, pick a star for your new little one.

And favors aren’t just for the ladies—what man doesn’t like pizza? Pick a practical pizza cutter favor to slice through an ooey-gooey cheesy slice of pizza and you’ll please just about anyone. Or maybe you’re having a more sophisticated soirée? Supply guests with a wine stopper favor and a bottle of wine for thanking them for being part of your special day. Have a lot of bakers on hand? Send them home with a mini whisk as a favor.

Visit a Flower Shop 1 year before Wedding

December 17th, 2009

visit-florist-1-year-before-weddingIf you’re one of the lucky brides who has more than a year to plan her wedding than visit your local floral shop(s) in the same season and specifically same month you plan on getting married the following year.

Visiting during the same season that you’re expected to get married in will give you an idea of what flowers will be in season. Searching for flowers that are in season is much more affordable and while you’re there you can get color inspirations that can help you choose your theme, decor and seasonal wedding favors.

You’ll also get a head start in shopping around for what could be one the most expensive items for your wedding!

Deciding to Elope?

December 6th, 2009

So you want to elope? Not all brides are interested in a big wedding, some just want to get married without all the hype - if that sounds like you and your having to deal with family and friends that freak out at the thought, read on.

Not all brides want a big wedding and that’s OKAY! Maybe you don’t want to have a 200 plus wedding celebration - but every time you mention eloping, your mom freaks out - what gives? Well, every parent wants to see their child end up with the right person and they want to be there when their children vow to be with that person for the rest of their life. Hey, maybe you won’t understand until you have your own children. In the meantime, maybe there is a comprise.

All that really matters is that they are there to witness your love to each other, you don’t have to have a huge guest list to make it happen. The compromise is to walk down that aisle in your perfect gown and have your parents and maybe a few of your best buds their to witness it. You can follow this up with an intimate dinner - there you have it! Not only have you skipped the big hyped up, uber expensive wedding, but you’ve also satisfied your loved ones desire to see you get married.

Winter Wonderland Themed Wedding

November 10th, 2009

Burr…Baby it’s cold outside, well at least it’s about to be! With the beauty of winter - the starry nights and sparkling white snow, winter weddings are becoming increasingly popular.

There are so many elements of of a wedding that make a winter themed wedding so appropriate, with your “ice” like diamond and “snow white” dress, a winter wonderland theme is absolutely stunning.

Though you could probably include holiday like elements, such as snowmen and green and red accents, in my opinion and based on current trends, it’s best to steer clear!

Instead opt for one of these sofisticated, yet stylish color combos:

Silver & Gold
Frosty Blue, silver and white
white and silver

For the decor, use metallic ornaments that match your theme colors, white flowers and ice sculptures with tealight candles for a little glow will look divine.

Serve your guests some spiced apple cider or hot chocolate during cocktail hour for a true winter wonderland feel.

For the ultimate Fairy Tale ending, give your guests a unique winter theme wedding favor and leave your glamorous winter wonderland wedding in a white horse and carriage!

Quinceanera Party Favors - Quinceanera Themes

October 29th, 2009

Are you about to celebrate your Quinceaños? The Quinceanera is a special time in a girl’s life, and her 15th Birthday Party should be celebrated in style!

Here are some Quinceanera Themes to consider:
Princess Theme - you’re supposed to feel like a princess at your Quinceanera, that’s why this is a great theme! You can either keep it simple or choose from a Disney Princess Theme Quinceanos. Here are some Disney Princess Themes to consider: Cinderella, Snow White, Beauty and the Beast - watch these movies and get inspiration on how to decorate for your party, what to wear and what you would like your court to wear..it would also be fun to choose a Prince Charming for this event.

Mardi Gras Quinceanera Theme- this is a lot of fun and can actually be pretty easy to plan. You’ll need tons of bead necklaces and you can decorate with lots of Gold, Metallic Purple, Metallic Green and more. Get inspiration from the Mardi Gras Parades for Oufits and Decor - it will be tons of fun!

Hawaiian or Luao Quinceanera Theme: This is another theme that is tons of fun..decorate with lots of tropical flowers and fruit. Use bold colors found in the tropics, like hot pink, fuschia, and yellow. With this theme you can have fun games like Limbo and you can have an extravagant buffet table for food. Don’t forget to pass out plenty of leis.

Black and White Party- This is pretty straightforward, decorate your entire party hall in black and white, everything from the invitations to the guests clothing needs to be black or white. You can spice things up - this is your Quinceanos - stand out by being the only one that wears a bold color other than black or white. This type of party is usually more formal and elegant, so if that’s the feel you want this is an excellent theme!

Other Quinceanera Themes to consider:
Romeo & Juliet
Winter Wonderland
Fairy Tale
Las Vegas
Mariachi
Moulin Rouge
